An historic result

Vancouver Canucks 4 - 0 Nashville Predators

(heh!)

First of all I want to extend a great big THANK YOU to everyone who kept me updated on the results on my previous post, and especially Massimo (aka Okham) who was also updating me on Facebook. I hereby publicly pledge to buy him a couple of beers next time we're in the same city!

The game got off to an unusual start with several shouts of "OBAMA!" during the US anthem. (No I didn't join in. I've heard my own anthem booed and otherwise disrespected enough times to ever do it to anyone else).

As predicted I spent way too much time hitting "refresh" on the BBC and CNN websites during the first period. I then lost reception on my phone at about 7.30 pm PST (this may or may not have had something to do with accidentally tossing it under the seat in front of me in a fit of drunkenness excitement - it was difficult to tell because Mr E Man confiscated it from me until I promised to behave and concentrate on the hockey).

But it didn't matter because the election result was flashed onto the giant screen during a brief break in the action. Everyone cheered, and Mr E Man and I jumped to our feet and hollered and pumped our fists and clapped our hands above our heads. It brought a tear to my eye.

But then the game restarted and we sat straight back down so the people behind us could see what was happening. I love Canada, everyone is so polite, even when drunk and rowdy.

I do have to say though that the cheer for Obama was nothing compared to that reserved for Kyle Wellwood, scorer of two of Vancouver's goals. Not bad for a fat bloke...

Just catching up on all the videos online... Great credit to McCain for his classy speech, but only Obama is making me cry.

Could be a late night! Party on, dudes!
